seventh years weren't supposed to have life be hard. francois could have lied to the first few students who walked past him, telling them that being a seventh year was easier than it looked. but in reality, it was harder than anything he could have possibly imagined. he knew he had to bust his rear to do great in school. he wanted that job in st. mungo's. he just needed to pass his mandatory classes and pass his newt exams in the process.
nerves had to kick in eventually.
as his parents took his younger brother into madam malkin's (he was growing out of his robes already; being fifteen does that to a person), francois snuck into the bookstore - flourish and blotts. he had to collect his books for the upcoming year. he had the list of books that were needed for his classes, and although he knew that there would be a decent sized inventory when it came to the books in question, he knew that sixth year students would be clueless when it came to what books they needed.
the door was open. francois slowly strolled into the bookstore and looked around. surprisingly, the store wasn't as busy as he expected it to be. there were a few first years getting all of their books, and he smiled at some of them as they walked out with their parents.
the hufflepuff made his way to the back counter, where an employee stood with one or two others walking by him. they were stocking up on books that had been cleaned off of their respective shelves. he knew that the books were for the younger years. francois almost chuckled as he finally stood next to the counter.
"hello, sir," francois said, trying to find the right words to say next. "books for seventh year, yes? not sure if i need new ones." he handed off the sheet of parchment with the list of books needed for his year to the employee who wasn't busy stacking books on top of one another. his english was surely off a little bit, but the employee knew what he meant. while his books were being retrieved for him, francois turned around to face the entranceway. where was everyone else? diagon alley was pretty busy...
